Founded in 1898, Elisabeth Krankenhaus Recklinghausen manages the span between being one of the oldest hospitals in Germany and among the most modern ones at the same time. A truly international team of almost 500 staff takes care of more than 26,000 patients every year. The hospital’s nine departments are: Surgery and Visceral Surgery, Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Vascular Surgery, Geriatrics and Neurology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Palliative Care, Radiology, and Trauma Surgery. A central A&E department, various doctor’s offices, and services from commercial healthcare providers complete the arrangement of healthcare facilities under one roof.

The city of Recklinghausen (www.recklinghausen.de) with its 110,000 inhabitants is situated in the north of the Ruhrgebiet, a former industrial area which has been converted into a vibrant and multicultural set of towns in which the next city is literally just around the corner. Multiple parcs and recreational areas, shopping centres, cinemas and a broad range of tourist attractions are nearby in the Ruhrgebiet. Elisabeth Krankenhaus in Recklinghausen is closely connected to the local parish of St. Antonius and is a well renowned employer in the south of Recklinghausen. The hearts and hands of the multicultural staff make every effort to make patients feel at home whilst being at the hospital. Nurses from abroad can be provided with a certain number of rooms in a shared living next to the hospital for the first couple of months after their arrival. And as Recklinghausen’s people are friendly and welcoming, finding and renting an own flat with the hospital background has never been an issue.
